One of my future projects is called the pathway towards freedom. This will be a comprehensive look at movements of different activist groups in the United States over the past one-hundred years. Throughout the teaching of this lesson I want to invite activists from any of these more recent movements to speak to the class and engage them in discussion and curiosity with the reasons for participating in activism.
My desired outcome for this project is to engage students with the local community activists to understand some of the local challenges that people are facing, whether they be environmentally or other facets of systemic oppression and to then ask students how they would like engage in their San Diego Community to make a difference in important work of movements, organizing and activism. Ultimately, I'd like to invite students to use their critical thinking and also to begin using their skills of critical thinking and collaborative learning to make a difference in the community in impactful and important ways.
